We are considering becoming fullm time foster carers, could someone please tell me more about it.

How do we go about registering our intrest?

I know about the length of time the process takes, but what is the criteria. We have one DS who will be 6 at the end of the year, we can't have anymore. we also have pets.

How much say are we likely to have in terms of type of child we would love to offer a home to? Ideally we would ove to offer one to a child with learning disabilities. We are not really fussed on the sex but would prefer a boy, as we already have one. What, if any is the required age difference.

And any other info would be greatly recieved, thanks for reading.

Hi mtybf
Its worth having a look at the other threads on this topic as the advice is very similar. your first port of call should probably be your local social services family placement team. A good website is the fostering network, they have a tool to search for all your local fostering agencies.

As for your situation, it sounds ideal. the usual criteria is that there should be 2 years age gap between your child and the fostered child. however they also take into account other things as well as age so that there are as few clashes between children as possible.

good luck.smile

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
