Chicken Maryland - could this possibly taste nice??

I have just followed a chicken maryland recipe from a Jamie Oliver Dinners' book and as I was preparing it all I could think was 'this just sounds like its going to taste horrific'

has anyone made it?

even if you haven't what would you think

corn kernels and canellini beans at the bottom
chicken breasts with banana in the 'pocket'
poured over white wine and double cream
knobs of butter
pancetta on the top

it seems like heart attack on a plate and like it will taste foul

not cooking it till this evening, what do you think, should I have an alternative ready??

twig, i think it was suew who was thinking of making this the other week, i still haven't got organised enough to get all the ingredients, though felt adventurous enough to try

i await your verdict ..

I have had it and it was OK, although I'm not sure I'd bother again. This is one of his recipes that is notorious for coming out much much more swimming in liquid than it looks in the book, by the way.

I think its the banana in the chicken that looks icky

also it seemed to be floating in fluid, so hopefully will seem nicer once cooked

(I even did the corn on the cob - make yer own kernels bit, rather than open a can)

twig have you a fan oven? if yes, this would probably sort the liquid problem

Never fancied it myself - the banana puts me off, sounds potentially sickly.

Let us know though.

sounds like heart attack tackle to me too - and this is a school dinners recipe?

yes have a fan oven and have run out of silver foil so hopefully liquid will burn off

(I took him literally when he said large glass of white wine too )

it does sound yuck

and it looks yuck

I am already fancying chicken zafrani from our local indian

did a nigella tagine at the weekend, with lots of lamb, treacle, honey, star anise, prunes, allspice etc and it was lovely, served with couscous topped with apricots and coriander

you see makes it worse that DH's idea of liking food is to mumble "s'alright" and if he hates a food he just leaves it

his idea of heaven is meat and potatoes

Well the chicken maryland has an unusual aroma - kind of sweet and white wine (I might have put in a touch too much TBH )

it tastes quite pleasant - not sure of the banana,

far too much liquid in it though would put 2/3rds the amount next time

DD loved the corn and beans bit
