Homemade yoghurt

Help - I followed Jamie instructions. Boiled a litre if milk, cooled to body temperature, added 500mls of yeo live yoghurt. It has been out on the counter for 7 hours now and is still the consistency of cream.

Have I done something wrong or is it a matter of time?

Once you have added the live yoghurt you need to wrap the tub in something - eg a few tea towels - to keep the heat in, and then store it somewhere warm overnight. I usually store mine in my microwave or unheated oven.

Then in the morning you should have some yoghurt! Smile

Try wrapping in towels and putting in airing cupboard? It does need to be quite cosy to turn

If it's been on the counter for 7 hours it's likely to be too cold to set and you'll have to try again :( but it's worth leaving it overnight just in case it has worked.

Airing cupboard is a much better storing suggestion than microwave.

Thank you

We don't have an airing cupboard but I'll wrap it up a bit and put it in the off oven

Let us know how it turns out - if it doesn't work then do try again without leaving it out on the counter. It's very satisfying when it works, once you get it right it's brilliant. I have made my own for years now.

Red and yellow - do you strain yours to get a thicker yoghurt? Is been a while since I made any but I was thinking of getting back into it and I prefer a more grekk yoghurt consistency

eatscake I don't strain my yoghurt - never thought of doing that! I love home made yoghurt, can really taste the difference from shop bought.
