Braces and food

Loser in my 30's just got braces fitted and I'm feeling down about it. They don't hurt as much as they did when I was a preteen and I know I'll get used to them but they're uncomfortable and annoying. Also they're ceramic rather than metal so I'm paranoid about staining (no more red wine unless I can brush immediately after Sad)

Help me get through the first week or two with some nice food ideas (preferably that I can alter slightly for the rest of the family - eg I had soup tonight which was a pasta sauce for DC).

I'm working on a morning smoothie - I rarely have breakfast but need a nice way to start my day that incorporates coffee! And soups I just normally bung some veg together, so those recommendations welcome, but Im going to get pretty sick of drinking all my meals soon enough.

I eat mostly vegan but seeing as meat is a big no go because of the potential chewiness that's not too much of an ask.

Firstly, stop referring to yourself as a loser!

Here are some nice things that are soft:

aubergine & white bean

lentil stew

All sorts of hummus. Guacomale. Bean dips (thick so can eat with a spoon)

Polenta. Mashed potato and/or butternut squash. Add garlic/herbs spices for variation. Mashed swede and carrots. Mushy peas with mint. Dhaal.

Rice pudding made with soya/almond milk (ditto porridge)

Soya ice cream

vegan vanilla pancakes

stuffed aubergine

roasted cauliflower soup

Hope that helps

That really does, Thankyou

There's a potluck thing at work tonight and I haven't told everyone because I don't want them to all have to eat mushy food, I'm making a vat of coriander and lemon houmous, but think I'll take a nice gazpacho for me to sit and sip in the corner

The aubergine recipes look especially lush, and will feel like a luxury as DC don't like them so we don't get to eat them often

Ooo can I ask about your hummus please? Mine always turns out bitter, but why? Too much garlic or wrong oil? I use extra virgin.

I don't use any oil and it's so much better:

1 tin chickpeas (rinsed)
1/4ish cup liquid from the can
3-5tspn lemon juice
1.5tblspn tahini
2 garlic cloves

If for grown ups I add salt and pepper and a bit of smoked paprika

Ok I am proper fucking miserable and hungry, can't chew at all because my teeth are so tight and the braces are rubbing against my cheeks (despite wax and bonjela!)

So - delicious filling and very smooth smoothie and soup ideas please (DH is making that aubergine and white bean one for me)
