Does anyone eat their main meal at lunchtime?

I have always had my main meal in the evening. I'm finding dinner time so fraught now that I just can't eat a proper meal, and then I'm ravenous once the DC are in bed and end up snacking for the rest of the evening. I really need to loose weight so need to stop the snacking, but literally cannot eat a full meal when everyone sits down together.

From this September DD will be finishing school at the same time as her older brother (2.10pm instead of 1.10pm) so I have time to eat a proper lunch instead of a bit of cheese folded inside a slice of bread eaten as I walk out of the door to do the school run.

If you eat your main meal at lunchtime what sort of things do you eat, and do you find you don't need to eat much at all in the evening? Or do you find that you end up eating more overall as you have a big lunch but still eat in the evening?

I started eating my main meal at lunchtime when my DD was having school dinners. I would have jacket potato, with tuna salad. Spaghetti bolognese made with quorn mince (half the calories of meat! yippee) and a salad,
shepherd's pie, portion controlled, cooked myself, chicken with potatoes and carrots and greens, chlli con carne (also with quorn mince) and salad, fish fingers mash and peas, linda mccartney sausage, mash and baked beans. (LM's sausages low calorie because meat free). found these meals filling. would healthy snack about 2.45pm,ie a banana, when about to go out to get DD from school. Then we would have tea, about 5-6ish. I also found eating a proper breakfast, ie porridge, or streaky bacon and a piece of toast, and a yoghurt, helped me not to get ravenous in the evenings. I've also tried eating 5 small meals a day, instead of 3 medium sized ones. That way I don't feel hungry. Of course, sometimes nothing but a chocolate biscuit will do! usually when the weather is freezing. All of the above can be jazzed up a la Jamie Oliver!

Thanks titabeth. I think I will try it when they are back in school. It's too hot at the moment for a big meal in the middle of the day anyway.

I've got a hawaiian pizza in the freezer I'm dying to eat, but it's too hot to cook it! By the time the flat is cool enough, I'm not hungry! Happy munching! In a good way Smile
