Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for keeping veg fresh in this warm humid weather please?

Just got my shopping in and would love to be able to get longer out of potatoes, carrots and onions particularly as I don't store them in the fridge (only because I read you are not supposed to). Kitchen is south facing and is therefore very warm.

Have just had to dump slimey carrots, soft onions and potatoes into the food recycling bin (bloody waste and boak!)

I always keep carrots in the fridge. Onions and potatoes can be kept in briwn paper bags to keep them frsh.

Well, I keep all mine in the fridge with the exception of bananas and oranges. I take soft fruit and nectarines etc out of the fridge about an hour or so before use.

We have a frost free fridge if that makes any difference, but veg in particular lasts for weeks past the date - we had potatoes the other day that were dated May.

Spring onions are the only things that don't last as they go really soft and dry out.

Yep everything in fridge except potatoes, onions, garlic and bananas. Potatoes need to be kept in something breathable like a paper bag or cloth bag (those bookstart ones come in useful!) because if kept in plastic they'll get sweaty and then start to mould. They will grow tentacles though which is the worst thing EVER. But they will last forever - May to july is nothing Grin I go through phases of eating/not eating potatoes so I've had months old ones before. But you shouldn't keep potatoes in the fridge because they need to be kept in the dark and you open a fridge quite often.

Everything in the fridge here too except for bananas (go grey), citrus (chill damage) and tomatoes (go grainy)

Potatoes carrots and onions I have in the fridge and take out the day I'm using them, they last for ages and don't notice any difference.

Everything goes in the fridge here (except bananas as already stated).

Potatoes also stored in the fridge in a drawer. I have noticed no adverse effects of doing this and they last for ages.

Just put them in the fridge. I know of no good reason why you shouldn't.

Take the spuds out an hour or so before cooking, though.

Why do you need to take potatoes out for a while before cooking?

I take fruit out just because the flavour is better when it's not so cold but potatoes I take out, and either peel or slice up for wedges etc and cook straight away - we are still alive :)

Everything except spuds in the fridge here. Although reading this I might start putting them in.

Some things last better in Tupperware boxes lined with kitchen towel, fridges are very dry and it stops things spoiling so quickly.

Fridge here, my kitchen gets the sun from early morning and potatoes sprout in days in the cupboard.

When I win the lottery I will have a kitchen with a propper pantry.
