What are your children's favourite meals?

Struggling to get a fussy eater to eat anything other than bread, so need ideas for what children do generally like.

Tried chicken and rice with peas, wasn't touched!

Please help.

My 4 all love fajitas, they can make it themselves and choose what they want. All eat more if they can help themselves. Youngest are nearly 5.

I wish Master Fussy would eat those things. Of the things so far, he will eat Pesto Pasta. Such a nightmare.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of help yourself. May try not mixing things up and just doing little bowls with things in and hope that Master Fussy will help himself, then from that I may be able to work out what things he will eat, other than bread, pasta, pesto, biscuits, chocolate, porridge.

Just so you know, there are plenty of things ds1 wouldn't touch with a barge pole, eg anything grainy like couscous, dry rice with no sauce, anything made by one of the grandmas (she truly deserves a Patience Medal) etc

I think the pick n mix style is a life saver. Use it loads if we have people with kids over because it caters for all tastes. Baguette, cheese (obv), olives, potato salad, couscous (because I live in hope), ham, pom bears (again obv Grin), carrot/cucumber/pepper sticks etc

Good luck with your mission Thanks

Taffeta, could I ask you for the recipe for chicken parmesan please? I would like to try dd with that as she likes both of these things.

I consider dd to be on the fussy side but she likes / will eat the following:

Pasta Bianca (pasta tossed in butter and grated parmesan cheese) - would LIVE on this
Olives, green ones mainly
Parmesan cheese - by the block
Roast chicken
Roast potatoes
raw carrots
pretty much any fruit
pizza
pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup
egg mayonnaise brown bread sandwiches
battered fish - not so gone on the chips
chicken curry and rice - has to be 'persuaded with this one)
bologanise sauce with pasta of any shape
pasta pesto with parmesan
she used to eat ham or chicken sandwiches but refuses now
philadelphia with bread sticks
brown soda bread toasted
'High Tea' - fried egg, sausage, bacon, beans & toast
scrambled egg & beans and toast
pain au chocolate / croissants
smoothies
pasta with chicken and veg in a creamy tomato and basil sauce
parma ham and mushroom pasta (Bill Granger) - picks out the mushroom
meatballs and pasta
fruit scones with butter
apple tart with ice-cream

There are loads of things I would love to get her eating - toasted sandwiches etc which would make lunchtimes and eating out a bit easier for us all. Also some visible cooked veg would be great. She eats a LOT of veg as I finely grate carrot, onion, celery, garlic as the base for pretty much all sauces and she doesn't know they are there!

I am thinking of getting Faye Ripley's book and getting her to help me choose the recipe and make the meal, she is 7.5yrs now

Redmayne, it's just chicken cut into strips. Then tossed in flour, then beaten egg and then a flour and grated Parmesan mix. I also add celery salt and a pinch of cayenne. Then fry until golden and chicken cooked through. You can bake but not as nice.

Taffeta, thanks a million for that, have pretty much everything here to try that, chicken in freezer. Is the final coating flour and parmesan or beadcrumbs?

Thanks!

DD1 (2 1/2) is very fussy.
She loves (but will not always eat):
Bread!
pasta with pesto
pasta with nothing (or butter if she doesn't see it)
macaroni cheese, but only since she started cooking it with nana. She also likes it with sweetcorn and mushrooms in it.
Spaghetti bolognese
Lasagne
Mushroom pizza / ham & mushroom pizza
Chicken (tikka or BBQ) with rice, as long as the rice is completely plain.
Breaded fish with chips and peas.
Cheese sandwiches
Roast potato
Banana on toast
Baked beans
Rice krispies/cornflakes/porridge
