I would love to try making these but don't like almonds! Have found recipes with some of the almonds substituted, but not the whole quantity. Anyone know if they would work if I just used hazelnuts, for example?

I can't see why it wouldn't work using ground hazelnuts.

almonds and coconut work - you could theoretcially use any type of ground nut.

What about pistachios?

Ok, so theoretically it should be ok? I suppose since I've never made them before I was hoping someone would be able to say they had done it successfully!

Almonds are a subtle flavour and macaroons tend to be flavoured with all sorts of additions to the buttercream...can't see why hazelnuts wouldn't work apart from having a more pronounced flavour which you would account for in your flavour matchings. A chocolate ganache would be perfect with hazelnuts.

I tried making macaroons but it was always a failure and my husband bought me a macaron kit for my birthday. So i have retry to make macarons with this kit, it's really easy to make, amazing!

PLain ones are lovely if you add finely grated lemon zest and then sandwich together with lemon curd.

I’ve made hazelnut macarons. They were lovely. Chocolate ganache filling. I don’t think you could make the same range of different flavours you can with almond as they are very hazelnutty. But maybe coffee, chocolate, raspberry, that kind of thing.
