Suggestions for starter and main for dinner party?

I've invited two lovely old friends round for dinner next week (when I get bloody paid!!!) and would love some advice on what to cook them...
For pudding I'm going to do my mum's legendary chocolate tipsy are, which is a heaven of chocolate, egg white, cream, lady fingers and brandy!
But what about starter and main?

Here's the thing - I want to cook something really delicious but I've been doing really well in my Paleo diet way of eating and would like my food to kind of fit in that (yes I know the pudding is not Paleo..)

So, no bread, pasta, beans, grains, potatoes...

Or should I think sod it for one night and not factor the Paleo aspect in?

Advice eagerly accepted. My strengths are big roasts, beef bourguignons, stuff like that.

I adore steak could quite happily eat it off the poor cow but the risk taker in me wants to push myself a bit more..
Haha, maybe I'll try a steak tartare for starter! Grin

God I want a steak.

IMO when you only have a couple of people there you want to chat.
There's always room in me for a risotto.
Of waitrose have a nice goats cheese and butternut squash pasta recipe.

Ooh now goats cheese must feature somewhere - it really is my favourite! Thanks for that.
Yes you are right about the chatting - we all worked together in the pub business eight or nine years ago and hadnt seen each other since then until a couple of weeks ago. Still got loads to talk about, I'm so excited.

Have a look at some of the Paleo blogs - you shouldn't have any problem making a Paleo dinner.

Last week dh and I had a great paleo lunch - Parma ham & figs with raw honey - dh had some goats cheese.

Followed by aubergine stuffed with lamb and pine nuts served with a tomato and cucumber salad, you could offer some bread too for your guests but I don't think they'd miss it.

It was all prep beforehand - leaving you time to chat with your guests.

Wow - I was thinking lamb might have to make an appearance at some point.
Oh Christ, I'm trying to think of food but watching Embarrassing Bodies where they're analysing shit. I actually may vomit.
