Emergency Food Help Thread

simply because there is a need for it.

the aim of this thread is to provide information about services available to those who are struggling to feed themselves and their families.

anyone who knows of food donation schemes/foodbanks/any help whatsoever in their local area can post the details here for others to see and anyone who needs help and cant find anything where they live can post asking if anyone knows of something they aren't aware of.

could i ask that namechangers/first time posters are not questioned on this thread and also that only details of foodschemes/donation drives etc be posted so as to keep the thread on track and avoid getting into personal pleas/stories. there are many many topics where posters can ask for individual help and will be answered but this thread is really just to provide information about what foodbank schemes are available and where.

i'll start.

i'm in Downpatrick, South Down, Northern Ireland.

i have found a food donation scheme in the Methodist Church in Ballynahinch but nothing so far in Downpatrick itself.

Does anyone know of anything? (i'm still googling and will do some ringing round tomorrow)

North Ayrshire Food Bank. The times for Girdle Toll are wrong. We open from 12-2pm on Monday and Tuesday, 4-6pm on Friday. You'll get a cup of tea and a sandwich or something when you come as well. You need a referral voucher from Social Services/Job Centre.

GT church runs a wee cafe on a Tuesday moning 10-12am, where you get tea, sandwich, cakes. There is no charge just a donation if you can afford one. Nazarene church in Ardrossan runs a community cafe alongside the foodbank where you can get a hot meal, again no charge. Dreghorn parish church also runs a coffee morning on a Tuesday, I think from 10.30am - 12pm.
