Hi there,

(some TMI coming up so you've been warned!)
Poor DH is on his way to the dentist as I type. Gonna come home with ONLY two teeth in his upper jaw and a lot of screws Shock So no chewing for him for an indefinite amount of time! We don't know when, or whether, he can have his denture back but it'll be a couple of months till his crowns and bridges are put on, so it could mean baby food for him until then!

I'm kinda stuck for dinner ideas.. Sure mash and overcooked pasta are safe, but what about the meat? I was planning a spag bol for tonight, but just realised he'd probably be banned from anything acidic or spicy for the next few days, too. What else can I do with mince but no (or few) tomatoes? Cottage pie with stewed (rather than fried) mince? Some sort of a gooey pasta sauce ?

What else? I need as many ideas as possible for mains, where the meat/chicken/fish is either minced or cooked till very soft so it literally falls apart.

TIA

I remember having my wisdom teeth out when I was 16. My mum liquidised everything for me so it was all like thick soups. For a while I had to have it luke warm until my mouth had healed enough to be able to cope with anything hot. Believe me when your mouth is sore, even lumpy bits of mince are painful. You were right about baby food - think puree and you'll probably be OK. Hope he recovers soon.

Soups?

Fish pie with a mash topping?

Scramble egg? Soups? Smoothies? Ice cream?

Home made veggie soups. These can be as thick as he can cope with!

Seeline,
he had all his upper teeth but two pulled out a few months ago and I didn't succeed in making him eat purees back then! He was straight on mash and ham the first evening, and back to almost normal food within 4 days. Men! Angry He had a denture straight on though, so could chew. But was sore, surely. Sore and stubborn though!

This time, coz his jaw has healed, he should hopefully be less sore (I don't think the implants are meant to hurt much apart from the first few days). But he won't be allowed to put any pressure on them so no chewing. I'll certainly try soups but not sure how much success that'll be!

What DazR said.

If you want to add meat and mince is a problem in terms of texture then blitz (=puree) that after frying, then add to your sauce or soup...

No acid sauce: I made celery soup last night that was very tasty and thick, I can imagine it's nice with extra beef and if you hold back on the stock/liquid then you could use it as a pasta sauce.

Anja,

thanks, I'll do just that for tonight - make a cottage pie-type sauce and mash but won't make it into a pie until I know how DH's feeling. Texted him but no response, must be driving. If he can't eat the sauce as it is, I'll blitz it and pour on top of mash. If he can, I'll do a pie.

Just hope it won't last long coz he's so terrible with these things, last time he wasn't allowed any hot drinks (obviously) but only lasted a day without his coffee. Best thing I could do is make it lukewarm, but he was making it himself half the time!
