Bolognese pasta bake 'thing'

ok, instead of making a lasagne is there any reason why this would not work...

make a bolognese sauce, and cook some pasta 'shapes' (penne / pasta shells etc)

mix it all together and put in an oven proof dish
pour a white cheesey sauce on the top

cook in the over until hot?

does this sound plausable....

or might the white sauce mix too much with the bolognese sauce....
could it work WITHOUT the white sauce (or will the mincey bits on the top 'dry out'?) What about if covereed dish in foil.

any comments suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

just sprinkle cheese on top and bake for 20 mins or so - yummy - no need for white sauce in my opinion

I love our timer too....

V useful on days when we arnt even home til after tea time

i normally do:
Lasagne
Shpeheards pie
Mouskka
Fish pie

just thought that pastay thing may be a change if it works...

I WILL give it a try with lots of cheese and see what happens! Pasta , bolognese and cheese cant taste that bad surely?

DH doesn't have a very big recipe repertoire but this is his piece de resistance. He usually adds quite a lot of red wine, loads of cheddar on top, sprinkle a little mozarella over it & bungs it in the oven. Delish with crusty bread. Also does it with a basic tomato sauce, veggies & chunks of chicken instead of mince. Best with penne or fusili. Very comforting on a day like today, it's chucked it down all day.

I make one like this - basic mincey pasta sauce with passata or similar, cook pasta, mix up in casserole dish, crush crisps and grate cheese all over the top (white cheesey sauce not essential but probably nicer) and put under grill for c 5 mins.

NannyL - white sauce on top absolutely yummy and well worth the trouble IMO. I cant remember which cookery writer recommends you stir a portion of white sauce into any mince/bolognaise sauce, my kids love it but it is a bit of a faf. But definitely would go for your original suggestion will be lovely. Pretty similar to lasagne if you think about it.

I do it with the white/cheess sauce on top. It is lovely and seals it all in. It does mix a bit when served but yum yum yum.

Or what about a cobbler, make in a deeper dish and cover bolognase or just mince mix with un cooked scones, nice if a bit of herbs and chees in scones. They stay all squidy and doughy on bottom and like normal scones on top.
