I have been on sertraline for 6 months mainly for insomnia and anxiety but was obviously depressed as well as I feel totally differently about life now I'm on them smile. DH and I have decided that we'd like to start trying for a baby now, I always thought I'd be off the ad's for the new years but I recently tried to start coming off them by going down to half dose and I am clearly not ready as I nearly bit my poor dd's heads off and they weren't even being annoying blush.

So is it ok to have a baby whilst on AD's? I'm sure doctor mentioned it was better not to but what are the real implications? I also suffer from awful ante-natal mental health issues and last time ended up on Diazepam for insomnia and anxiety. I've actually been too scared to try again for another baby because I didn't want to go through that again so in my mind it's got to be the best time to try as I am actually on top of things mentally.

There are plenty of ADs that are safe for pregnancy, I don't know about your one. You need to speak to your psychiatrist and ask if it's safe on that one and if not can they put you on one. You should only come off with support, it's not necessarily that you're not ready, there is some addiction to them and that can be as bad as the depression in the first place.

Are you getting any sort of councelling help? There should be someone at your local mother & baby unit who you can see.

i must say i am a bit worried about this as well, as i am on ad's and have been since january, and am breast feeding dd2 who just turned 1, so i am not on any contraception, (not interested in at the moment anyway due to spd still iyswim!!!) but there is always that risk that it could happen at some point so it would be good to know

I have hjad 2 babies (dd2 and 3) whilst on anti depressants
basically after suffering from severe pnd after dd1 and then discovering that I had a panic/anxiety disorder I have not been off them since I was diagnosed after dd1

so about 8 years ago

I have accidently come off them (serious memeory issues here) but have been pregnant and breastfed (till 9 months and still going at 21 months) 2 children with no problems at all

there are anti d's that are more suitable so if I were you I would talk to your gp about matbe changing the one your on before you ttc.
I dont know if setraline os one of the more suitable. I have been on paroxetine during both the pg's

Hope this helps
Good luck with ttc smile

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
