I'm not sure if this topic should be under "feeling depressed" but here it goes anyway. My next door neighbour went into her back garden yesterday morning when I was getting my DS's ready for school. She started shouting loudly and I heard what she said. She said "you f..ng foreign whore, why don't you go back to your own country. She knows I'm not English. There is no love lost between us, but this has gone too far. I feel I have to do something, make her pay for what she said. What are my legal rights here? All comments appreciated. And yes, it has made me pretty depressed too.

I would start a diary of any hurtful things she says and does and ignore her in the meantime.

Does anyone else have a problem with her?

We live in a terraced house and she has got new neighbours next door to her. The previous ones had big problems with her and they moved out. I guess I ought to move out as well but at the moment we just cannot afford to because I'm still at home and there is not much money really.

If the verbal abuse continues (and I second the idea of logging it all) I would contact the police.

I think you should contact the Police now, racist abuse is a crime.

Thank you for your messages. I have called the police and they said they would be coming around for a chat. Obviously this is not an urgent situation, so it might take a while before they turn up. This woman has a teenage son, makes you wonder what kind of a man he will grow up to be..Personally I think she is cheapening her own son's sexuality by talking about women in this way. How banal can you get! I wish I could just wave a magic wand and take myself and my sons + husband away from this situation, but we do not live in a perfect world.

Good for you Salla. Let us know what the Police say. They are supposed to take this EXTREMELY seriously.
