Any babysitters?

I was just wondering how many people have the feeling that they are babysitting and are waiting for the "real" parents to come back.

I had a miscarriage and then lost a little girl who was born alive at 20 weeks. I got pregnant with Tink pretty soon after. Through my pregnancy I didn't feel that I was really going to have a baby, I knew I would believe it when it happened. In the end I went into labour at 31 weeks and had to have a section under General Anaesthetic. I didn't get to see her until she was 5 hours old and I've never been able to accept that she's mine.

I felt like this. Was on tenterhooks for weeks waiting for a knock at the door! It faded though, ds is 9 months now. How old is your dd?

Report
nappyaddict · 05/11/2007 14:10

if i remember correctly her dd is the same age as mine so 15/16 months.

tink - your near me aren't you. (birmingham way ish?)

if you ever need someone to talk, go out with, a babysitter whatever just say the word and i'm there!!

i've had a rough time with ds, not feeling like a mum etc so i know what you're going through.

Ah ok nappyaddict - I'm probably not much help then! Though I would say, and I hope this doesn't seem really rude, but are you having any counselling or anything to help with the things you've been through? I had post-natal depression which I think had something to do with feeling that way, and since starting to do things like counselling etc, I have really started to feel better and it was probably not long after I started getting help that that horrible feeling of "babysitting" must have faded. Apologies in advance if that's way off course but it might be worth a thought. It's always worth talking to someone. I hope things get better for you soon.

Hi, yes Tink is 15 months. You are right nappyaddict, I'm in Birmingham. I live in Edgbaston so probably about 10 miles from you.

I go to a group each week at the local mother and baby clinic, which is nice. I saw my psychiatrist last week and she's put me on antidepressants.

It's good to know I'm not the only one to have gone through these feelings.

i've just realised you're on slingmeet aren't you?

are you going to the meet on fri? i don't think i can make it which is a pain cos i bought a wrap off ebay and have no idea how to use it!!

I'd forgotten about the meet, it's actually the 10th, which is Saturday. I'm not sure I will go because Tink is poorly and I don't know whether she will be better by then.

I make wraps, so if you want some help with yours I don't mind meeting up with you to help you with it.

On Thursday or Friday babyledweaning.com is having a meet at Hickory Dickory is Kings Heath which you are welcome to join.

If not I am free the same days, going to the hospital group tomorrow and after that no plans (other than a fabric delivery at some point this week, not sure what day though so not going to work around it).

i'm not sure how to get to kings heath (i don't drive.) i usually get a train to snow hill/moor street or the number 9 bus which stops on colmore row but wouldn't know how to get into other areas of birmingham.

I could meet you in town, I've already offered to bring someone so it's not a problem.

Not at hospital today, one nurse is on leave and the other is ill so no one to run the group.

Do you mean you would meet me in town and give me a lift? Cos i wouldn't be able to carry the car seat. What time is it??

Report
TinkerbellesMum · 13/11/2007 23:25

I don't drive, so you're ok there lol. It's the 50 we'd need so best place to meet would be the lower exit of the Pallades.

We've settled on Friday, toddler time is 9:30 to 12 so probably meeting there at 10. Meet in town at 9:30?

When you go in through the main doors you go down the escalators right in front of you. There's a TWM shop there and you come out opposite Moor St.

We need to catch the bus from there, which is why I said that side.

I will be carrying a pink bear (you'll understand) in a pink sling. Have a search on photobucket.comfor claireandisobel.
