feeling sick on Citalopram

I have just started on Citalopram for depression/anxiety (mainly anxiety). Had the first tablet this morning and felt really sick all morning. Felt so weird that I almost phoned the Dr to say I can't take any more.

Is this usual? Will it pass? I'm dreading taking the next one tomorrow - would it be better to take them at night?

Should I stick with them?

When i was on anti d's i always took them at night, just incase of side effects.
Do stick with them ,any side effect should quickly subside.

It will pass. The initial side effects make you feel a bit rough but they pass soon enough - I was feeling better after a couple of days, and the sickness had gone completely within a week or so.

My GP recommended taking them at night, but I know others have been told the opposite. Night-time suited me better though.

It ought to get better. I had really odd side effects for about ten days, felt totally spaced and queasy, and I think they go for most people after about two weeks. Just don't try and do anything too ambitious, like driving the length of Britain or something, for the first week or so.

Plus I don't know about you, but I found that I was really anxious about the tablets, which didn't help - I practically panicked about how I was feeling on the first day (rather ironic with an anti-anxiety medication) and almost stopped, But I'm glad I persevered, as it has made a whole heap of difference to how I feel.

Thanks for your comments. I think I'll leave tomorrows tablet until bed time and see how that feels.

Did either of you have anxiety and did Citalopram help with this long term? I've just been reading other threads where they say that ADs just give you time to get sorted out. But I don't have any issues that can be sorted out so I'm afraid that I'll be on them forever coz if I stop, I'll get just as anxious again.

Anyway, I'm off to bed now (i know - tragically earlier). Be back tomorrow.

citalopram is a wonderful drug but you do feel a bit strange for the first week or so.

Stick with it though, it will help you.

Are you having weird dreams/nightmares? That can be a side effect too.

it'll get better, most ads need about 2 weeks to get over the side effects stick with it and if they don't go within a couple of weeks go back to the doctors. For what it's worth I took it for about 2 and a half years, the first few weeks were horrendous but it was worth it

I felt sooo weird when I first started taking it! The panics intensified, I had very vivid dreams etc....thankfully that all settled after about two weeks, so stick with it and you should see an improvement soon

Best of luck
