Citalopram and dosulepin

Is anyone else on this combination of ADs? I saw the GP today to review my citalopram and told him my depression has recently worsened (I'm on 40mg). I thought he would just switch me to something else, but he's given me 25mg dosulepin to take before bed.

The internet is a terrible thing (!) - I've got myself all worried now because I've read that you shouldn't combine SSRIs with tricyclics as you get bad side effects.

So any relevant experience would be much appreciated! Thanks.

P.S. I mean 25mg to take in addition to the 40mg citalopram, not instead of.

I take it from the many replies (!) that no one has this combination. I haven't taken the dosulepin yet as I'm worried about it being a tricyclic... was actually going to the GP in the hope of reducing my citalopram, not adding another drug into the mix!

Think I might go and see a different GP and get a second opinion...

Hi Verso. Sorry don't have any experience of these ad's but once when I was unsure of a combination of meds prescribed to my ds I phoned the Boots pharmacist who advised and was very helpful. Might be worth a try.

I have been on 50mg dosulepin, it made me really really sleepy. I was taking it at 7pm,going to bed by 11pm and waking up shattered (hangover affect?). It was really hard for me to open my eyes, get my head off the pillow and do anything before 9am! Not good when I have 2 ds's - 5mths and a 23mths!
I asked my Dr to change the tablets as I have just returned to work too. I'm now on 50mg Sertraline as of yeserday. I have to say, they made me feel quite funny afterwards, and I've woken with a bad headache. Not sure if the tabs are related to the headache though

I would go back to a different GP if I were you Verso. I work in the mental health sector and in my experience it is rare that people are prescribed an SSRI along with a tricyclic. You are likely to experience some nasty side effects on the two. Some GP's are so clueless and just throw prescriptions at people rather than take the time to look at alternatives. Hope this is helpful.
