paying for counselling

I had counselling beginning of year which helped tremedously but now I feel I need to see someone again to help me get over final few hurdles.....really struggling but 10 mths on, feel family & friends think Im ok...but am still struggling.... is it expensive & how soon can you see someone?

you can get it on NHS.

Go & speak to your gp. I have had 2 lots of sessions (2 years apart) through the NHS, & they were very helpful.
Mine were organised through my HV & I had around a 6 week wait for them.

thanks I will go & see my GP again
Im worried she will just increase my ADS when I dont feel this will help
just need to get things sorted in my head or sound off without it upsetting my family

You will only get 6 sessions through your GP, and waiting lists are somewhat inevitable throughout, so if your issues are deep-seated and may need more long-term work, be prepared. Contact your local Council for Voluntary Services who should have details of any local organisations offering low-cost counselling (they may not say 'free' as people don't always value free services, but they will often charge a nominal amount or go on a 'donations' basis.)

If you need counselling because of a more specific core reason (eg bereavement, relationships, domestic abuse) appropriate organisations may offer low cost counselling. Again, local CVS should have details.

You get a maximum of 12 sessions at a time through the NHS, but they assess how things are going after 6 sessions & ask you if you feel you need another 6 sessions, or if you want to stop there.
I had 1 lot of 12 sessions through the NHS & then 2 years later I went back & had 18 sessions. You are meant to stop after 12, but as things were so up in the air with me at the time, the counsellor asked my gps permission to give me a further 6 sessions.

havent contacted GP yet - will ring mon - I knoew she will jsut say keep taking the ADS but I dont think thats the answer...

as for new chap, hes lovely - I was upset last night cos kids gone away for weekend, and he was just lovely....was worried hed think run a mile when I burst into tears but he was calm & said all the right things.....
