Keep thinking dark thoughts

Especially around my periods. It starts about 9 days before and then a few days after. Some of the thoughts are of suicide, but I would never do anything that horrible to myself as it would not be fair on my family.
I don't want to talk to the GP about it as I don't want to be on medication. I know it's to do partly with PMT, but is there anything I can do to alter my moods, using natural methods?

Hi there am so glad I've seen your post as I am totally with you. Had been going to docs for 6 years complaining of chronic PMT only to be told I was depressed they just didn't listen to me when I said I was absolutely fine for 2 weeks of the month but in a bad way mentally the other two therefore NOT depressed it was so frustrating. Anyway, after ridiculous amount of research came across PMDD (Premenstrual dismorphic disorder) which may well be your problem.

I kept a mood diary for months and noticed that my mood drastically changed, including suicidal & self harm thoughts, on the day I ovulated until my period started then I would be absolutely fine again. Its only been recognised in this country fairly recently & it's thought that some people are super sensitive to the hormones that increase with ovulation, its on NHS website, although my doc hadn't heard of it. I have been prescribed a very low dose of fluxotine (Prozac) which I take on day of ovulation til period starts and it has completely sorted me out. No side effects or withdrawal as you're taking it for PMDD NOT depression. Other things which are advised to help are cutting down on alcohol, chocolate & exercising regularly. It's reckoned about 3% of women suffer from it.
Google it, I think if you want to try the natural route Agnus Castis is one to try (check though as I've given in to the medication route!) good luck Smile
