Yeah it's not a good idea. I once lost a full night after drinking whilst on prozac. I'm on a combination of meds now so try not to drink at all. It's hard not to due to my the nature of my condition though.

Right that rules that out I haven't been drinking but was wondering if it would be okay on special occasions. But if it will bigger my med up id rather not.

Yes, I do drink (wine fan).
But, as alcohol is a depressant, it will cancel out the effect of ADs.
Whilst I could say what happens for me, and how much, it might be very different for you, and given different meds and doses and....... Etc.
Crawling I have read a lot of your posts and you are clearly very knowledgable about your condition. Are you able to have a direct / frank discussion with your Doc about it? I did. We are adults and I had a sensible conversation on that basis with my Psych.

My brother is on anti-psychotics and when he drinks too much he becomes unwell rapidly. His psychiatrist told him a couple of pints now and then is okay, but more than that he risks an episode.

I agree with the other posters. I am on citalopram and have drunk occasionally but the effect it had on my mood for days after wasn't worth it. I also found that after a couple of glasses of wine I felt very drowsy whereas prior to the AD's this was never a problem so now I steer clear of alcohol.

My psych told me the main concern with drinking on meds is that alcohol is a depressant. You can have the odd glass of wine, but be careful. Better to drink a spritzrer or something.

Its not to say never - i was told the old drink if i wanted was ok. In fact i was a student then and the GPs exact words to me were " Justas long as you dont have a bender ok ? "

Not a good idea at all. Unbeknownst to me, I was having a bad reaction to Anti D's and didn't stop drinking. Very dark time.

Wish you well

Sorry my post wasn't very clear. I was drinking more than was good for me. I don't think I would have been as bad with the odd glass of wine.
