If anyone on the Mental Health board would like a prayer said for them, or anyone else they know, please feel free to post it onto the linked thread below.

Why do you consider that anyone with mental health issues needs prayers rather than say, petitioning of their MP for better local provision?

They can have both if they want to.

The other thread is running now.

Which other thread? I think we are better focussed on spreading the word that so many of us will be affected by MH issues, and taking the shame and negativity away from it is the way to move forward. Rather than just praying about it, think about what you might be able to do to help someone suffering. As an example, there are many Mentally Ill homeless people where I live, so rather than praying, I give warm clothing to relevant agencies, give beer and sandwiches to people I see at the station everyday - forgive me for not praying for them though.

How lovely. Will you be doing the same for the conception, infertility, GH, relationships, legal and credit crunch boards?

And aibu?

I agree with porto.

The thread I linked to above.

And yes, that is a good idea.
If people see this thread and want a prayer for any of the above, they can post it on here, or on the above link.

And yes, practically helping in rl is important for us all to do if we are able to.

Well its not helped me, it just gave me the rage. I post a lot on this board (although using a shiny new name now) and frankly I have enough problems with delusional thought without someone foisting theirs on me.

There's a reason why there is a philosophy, spiritiuality and religions board. Its so I can hide it. And with that, I shall also hide this patronising shite.

Fair enough.

The thread is over there for anybody who wants to use it.

Damn, knew I shouldn't unhide.

Let's get something clear, I would NEVER go on the religion boards and have a go, ever and if someone wants to start a prayer thread there where it will be seen by like-minded individuals, then great.

However, I find the assumption that because I have MH issues I need to be prayed for deeply offensive.

Where are all the links to prayer threads in the other topics eh?

Life can be emotionally hard and a challenge at times.
Sometimes ,mental health can make it even more so, and some people may appreciate a prayer, others not.

Like I have said, other issues can be prayed for as well.
Perhaps I should post something on the linked thread in the philosophy/religion/spirituality section to that effect.

So keep it in religion, amillion.

Where's the prayer link in AIBU for those who want a prayer to resolve their petty gripe? The one in Relationships for people who need support to leave the bastard? The one in behaviour and development or SN for those worried about their DCs?

Not there, are they.

Perhaps I should have said that I discussed this thread with MNHQ some weeks ago, they said they thought it was a lovely idea, and suggested I set it up in this manner.

I could go round on the other boards as you suggest, but that might be a bit of overkill. I will have a think about it.

Sorry to have upset you or others. That is the last thing I intended.
I could speak to MNHQ again. But some people do like the idea.

I did see that you discussed it with MNHQ, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with their decision and have reported the thread to say as much.

To me, putting a prayer thread link onto a specific topic suggests you feel that posters there in particular are needing of your pity spiritual help. I don't agree and am offended.

The mental health board is already a support board. I don't believe it needs an additional religious angle. If people find help and solice in religion, then there is a topic right there that they can use.

Why? For not approving of it? Its not as if she posted on the actual prayer thread.

The help that born has given posters over the years has been invaluable. She's certainly helped me more than a prayer would, people are allowed different opinions.

Well, I'm offended, you're offended. Its now an equal opportunities thread innit.

Also, saying Petitional Prayer is delusional - the belief that by saying words out loud or in your head you can somehow influence the future - has nowt to do with Christianity, and its a perfectly valid opinion.

Report
JustBlameItOnTheCuervoDude · 26/11/2012 18:56

Different opinions yes of course
but to suggest that christianity is delusional thought and that that spiritual help somehow equates to pity is offensive to me.

I would see your point if that was posted in P+S. But it wasn't. Its a thread that was started in mh to promote a different thread. One that born finds offensive, but she would not have known about it, had it not been linked here.

BornSour · 26/11/2012 18:56

Also, you will notice I've stayed well away from the thread in religion as I know that is a space for people who DO believe. I reseve the right to express my opinion on this thread though.
