Anyone got a 'SAD' light lamp? If so, does it have an effect?

Thanks, have been looking at them but it seems to be a £50 gamble.

I've got one. I'd have been better buying a big box of Twirls.

I've been thinking about one too. I take vitamin D tablets but they don't really seem to help. A couple of weeks ago I made myself go for a long walk and it seemed to buck me up all week. That's the best I can suggest. Hope you are ok SecondhandRose.

I've got one and I find it useful. I'd like to buy a big box of twirls to eat while I sit under my lamp.

I have a Lumie alarm clock that mimics sun rise. It's brilliant. Before pg I used to go on a sunbed a few times a week. Get outside for as long as you can each day & eat food with tryptophan in. Hope you feel better Smile

I have not got a SAD lamp but there is a nice little computer programme you can download which changes the resolution of your computer screen so that in the evenings it is not harsh light. I have found it has helped my mood a lot.

This is it;

Hi Secondhand, did you get a lamp in the end?

I just bought this one and am on day 1 with it at the moment. I'll let you know how I get on.

Try vitamin d in liquid form too.

I'm on cod liver oil at the moment. Is liquid vit d supposed to be better?

I think any supplements in liquid form are better absorbed by the body.
It's worth a go. As well as getting out as often as you can.

Vitamin d deficiency can cause low moods. There's been a lot in the media about how many of us are deficient due to lack of sun in the uk plus the use of lots of sun screen blocking out what little sun we get.

Yes, it's a bit of a vicious circle - I feel low so don't feel like going out, so get less light, so feel lower ... However, it's glorious sunshine here just now so we're wrapping up and dragging ourselves out for a walk.

I have used a huge lightbox for about 10 years, October to March, and swear by it. It is in my office and I just ordered a mini one on Amazon for the house as felt so yuk over Christmas. It was £24.99 reduced from £60. The mini one is great, I would recommend totally.

I've got one. Dh and I used it as an alarm clock. I liked it and found it calming. Dh didn't seem keen. Use it with dd now as count down to bed while her bottle is drunk. Seems to work quite well....

I have a lumie. It is a big investment but, for me, totally worth it.
I have mine plugged into a timer that switches it on 30mins before my alarm goes off. Since getting it, I have found it easier to get up BUT i'm still not jumping out of bed like a gazelle. I am, however, getting up every morning and coping a hit better.

I suppose the question is, do you generally feel better for getting out into the sun (such as it is)? If you do, it might be worth while.

Watching this with interest. Not sure if I will ever jump out of bed like a gazelle.
