No experience with Citalopram, but have you had your thyroid checked?

It could well be the tabs. When I was taking Lustral several years ago I got too sleepy when the doctor doubled the dose (fell asleep during an afternoon play at Edinburgh Festival and my purse and train tickets home were nicked!!GRRRR). What time of day do you take the Citalopram?

but as waterfalls says, get your GP to check your thyroid and iron levels as that can make you feel really knackered.

go again anyway and tell the docs all this - it really doesn't sound like the tabs are agreeing with you.

Feeling down is a symptom of an underactive thyroid.

Hi nikcola,

I am new to this site and your thread caught my eye. I was perscribed Cipramil a few years ago for post natal depression. It worked a treat. Last year I was beginning to feel anxious again and ask for more. I was given Citalopram, being told it was the same thing, and was a parallel drug? I had the most terrible pannic attacks. I have now stopped taking them all together and feel alot better. I was wondering how you got on with your doctor. At the moment i take beta blockers which take the edge off. I hope you are feeling a little better I know how you feel. xx

Nickola, i've been taking Citalopram 20mg for almost a year. I have days when I feel amazingly wiped out and it's such a struggle to get out of bed. I mentioned this to my GP who said it was probably a side effect of the tablets but did thyroid and iron tests anyway, which came back fine. IME the tiredness is just about manageable and the citalopram has worked well for my depression so I've stuck with it. Hopeing to come off it soon.

Perhaps you could talk to your GP if the tiredness is getting too much, and maybe try a different medication?
