for PND? I read a book recently called Depression After Childbirth: How to Recognize and Treat Postnatal Illness by Dr Katerina Dalton saying that it is possible to prevent most cases of PND before they happen by treating with progesterone injections immediately after birth.
She advocates this treatment for anyone who has had pnd in the past or who has it in the family.
The treatment needs to be before the symptoms set in but that in most cases it can prevent the need for antidepressants. I have not heard anyone else mention this treatment and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or has it been discredited?

yikes! progesterone does a number on my body - skin, hair, moods, etc. - and i have pnd. NO way i'd allow myself to be injected w/that stuff. the Depo injection is progesterone - and look at all the nasty effects of that! no thanks!

I think from what I have read that there isn't much evidence to back up her theory of progesterone treatment for PND.
