Fast Days - Tea with milk?

QueenofKelsingra · 31/01/2014 10:10

I'm new at this and on my first fast day today, so far so good.

I am drinking plenty of water but I really really love my tea! as long as I count the calories is it a problem/no go to keep sipping tea with milk on my fast days? I usually have about 4 cups vats of tea a day.

thanks!

I drink about 4 or 5 cups of tea on a fast day - just remember to add in the calories for the milk. A mug of tea with 30 ml of semi-skimmed milk comes in at around 15 calories.

I use skimmed only (and dont bother counting the the milk -its no more than 30-50 cals - but I'm probably cheating a bit)

Somebody on the other (mega!) thread suggested deciding how many calories you want to 'spend' on milk for hot drinks, measuring it out at the beginning of the day and then sticking to it. I've found this very helpful as hot drinks really help me manage my appetite, and tea with milk is my favourite. By putting my daily allowance aside I can be frugal with the milk in each cup, and have up to 6 or 7 cups in a day for the 50 calories I've allowed.

same here merci - i have my tea in big milky vats!! but i'm better if i never start eating so i only do dinner on my fast days so 400 is still plenty for one meal.

1st fast day yesterday completed and it wasnt too bad! and i slept fine and not ravenous this morning at all! feeling quite positive about this!

Well done, Queen! I wouldn't be able to manage without tea either, though luckily for me I don't like it very milky - just a splash will do. Yesterday I managed 8 cups for my 50 calories-worth. Tomorrow I'm aiming for 9. Grin

I'm the one who measures out milk for the FD hot drinks. I prefer unsweetened almond milk, 50ml for 18 cals. So, I put that in a little loctite pot, so I can take it to work.

Also, if you want to check how much sugar, Splenda or other sweetener you consume, then measure that out in advance. Sometimes spooning out a day's ration can surprise you how much it is and can encourage trying the drinks with less sweetener.
