Fasting / 5:2 diet

Relative merits of 5:2, 4:3 or Alternate day fasting

I've been doing 5:2 for a while; today in the Times there was a piece about Dr Varady's work suggesting that 4:3 is more effective - actually it appeared to be EOD (Every Other Day i.e. alternate day) rather than the e.g. fast Mon, Wed and Fri I'd assumed was meant by 4:3.

I've been having a break over xmas but will be starting again next week when DD is back at school - so now I'm wondering whether to stick with 5:2 or try 4:3. I'd be interested to hear of other people's experience - pros and cons of the various approaches. My feeling is that alternate day would be difficult in practice to fit with family life - 2 or 3 days fasting in the week on predictable days sounds more achievable.

Thanks!

I've toyed with 4:3 while losing weight and reverting to 5:2 to maintain

What's stopped me is the pressure of trying to fit an extra fast day in.

I like the flexibility that only 2 days out of 5 brings. If a FD fails I've got more of a chance of clawing it back the day after, if I've got 2/3 to fit in, and for me, a higher chance of failing

Well, for now I'm sticking to 5:2 as DH has decided to give it a go so I think it's best do the same to support him - he will find it difficult, carb addict.

And despite what I posted the other day, I'm resting my injured ankle this week and since DH is away 3or most of it, I'm attempting 3:4 to make up for the lack of movement Grin

Still, that's what's so great about this plan, you can be flexible

DH is also a carb addict, and as he spends a long time driving, comfort eats snack food. He doesn't drink enough water either but he's getting there.
Good luck Errol
