Fasting / 5:2 diet

Will I just end up dreading my fast days?

I've decided to give this 5:2 thing a go and have been reading up about it. My only niggling doubt is that I will end up with 2 days (for me a mon and weds) that I dread. Is there anyone who can set my mind at rest (or not!). Thanks Smile

Most people soon get used to FDs and in fact like the clean feeling it gives them.
It usually takes a couple of weeks to get used to 5:2, so allow yourself time and don't be too strict about FD calories at first.
On FDs, we usually eat protein and veg, e.g. stews, soups, even ready meals.

In order to dread something it has to be terrible to start with. Fast days are not terrible. Sometimes they are a little uncomfortable, sometimes very easy, and sometimes I look forward to them as I know I'll be more awake and alert and get loads done.

Hunger comes in waves, so even if you are uncomfortable, you have a cup of tea, get busy doing something and half an hour later you ralise you are not really hungry any more. It is very liberating.

There is no need for you to do the same 2 days every week either, so if you have a cold, or it is TOTM, or you planned to meet a friend for lunch, just do it a different day.

Thanks for your responses. I will join the main thread too. I am looking forward to my first fast day as I feel as though my eating is a bit out of control and I'm hoping that I may regain that sense of control by using fast days which is part of the appeal of 5:2 for me. Good to know the days can vary too. I am such a creature of habit and routine that that hadn't occurred to me.

While results vary from person to person, an awful lot of people say that once they are into the routine of fasting, they actually look forward to fast days.

I look forward to fast days on Monday when I may have been eating larger meals at the weekend. I don't look forward to the Thursday ones quite as much as I tend to not over-eat on weekdays so don't have that 'full' feeling. But I don't dread them. I don't feel great when I don't do fast days - my body now expects a break from the work of digesting a couple of times a week.

Does it actually matter that much? Better to dread only TWO days a week than every day surely?
