Just finished month 6 of Mirena - could it still settle?

Or do I give up?

The first few months I had almost constant light bleeding. It has definitely improved but is still far from settled. The last couple of months I've started what I assume is a very light period around day 21 of my cycle. It's more like spotting mostly rather than actual bleeding but it lasts 10-12 days. Sometimes I think I'm finished and put away the pads only for it to start again! I've currently been spotting since 14th June with a break of 1 day and it's now mostly mucousy brown gunk coming out rather than actual blood! This pattern means that I have little more than 1 week per month with no bleeding/discharge. It's annoying. Is this as good as it's going to get in which case I don't think the coil's for me or is there still time for things to settle down to some sort of normality???

Fed up with bleeding bleeding! Help!

I had the mirena fitted in March last year. I had constant spotting, mainly brown blood, sore boobs constantly, mother of all headaches that just wouldn't go for days, then in September I started to get abdominal pains, even my fanjo felt like it was in a vice! Went to the GP, she said stick it out. Few days later, I saw another GP, he removed it straight away :). He said that I'd stuck it out for seven months, time to call it a day. I was very pleased to be rid of the bloody thing.

Lots are very happy with their mirena, think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I hated mine and felt much better almost straight away, symptoms disappeared within a few days. In case you do have it removed, be warned, I had the mother of all periods a couple of weeks later, it was like my waters breaking, so glad I was at home ..... :)

There's a very funny thread - 'bastard mirena'

ughh. Last couple of days light spotting changed to heavier red bleeding which means I've been bleeding 15 days so maybe it's not improving after all! It's now been exactly 6 months so I will be going back to the consultant who fitted the stupid thing shortly (he inserted it to help treat fibroids). I'm going on hols fairly soon so don't plan to have it out beforehand in case it makes things even worse so it'll have been 8-9 months by the time I do which will surely be a fair trial??

How's it going Isitnearlytime?

I'm having a similar experience except its 7 months in and my constant bleeding only started at 6m, but I'm guessing that was because that was when I had my first post-baby period...

The cramps and really light bleeding are getting annoying after 3weeks so I can't imagine how annoying it would be to have it for months. I hoped I'd skipped the 'settling in' and have no clue how long to wait it out. Has anyone else had this and it settled down?

I'm just on 6 months after coil fitting.
Last month I had a light period, stopped for 4 days then had the heaviest bleed in ages (even before Mirena was in) for another 5 days. This month as you say I had spotting / brown discharge for 6 days then a light (but painful) period for another 6 days.

I went to GP after the heavy bleed / flooding and she said it was all part of the coil settling down and that in some people it can take up to 9 months Sad

I've got a colposcopy booked in for next week - high risk HPV Infection, which they said they can do & treat without removing the coil, but they might have to trim the strings.
