Hello

was going to name change as I'm embarrassed but don't know how to do it, so fuck it. I've also posted in chat.

Got the coil fitted last month. Since then I've noticed a funny smell and discharge. I know this is common and I've looked it up but can't find any advice on the best way to deal with it or make it go away. At the moment I'm taking extra showers and using pads. I hate pads with a passion. Hate them

Are there any wise mumsnetters out there with a miracle cure? I'm going on holiday this weekend and don't want to worry about it when I'm in my swimwear. I've even considered using tampons! Help!

Hey,
I had a coil fitted before ttc, when it was fitted my doctors said any strange discharge etc isn't normal and I should go back and check. Can you feel the wire is it still in place? If I were you I would book an doctors appointment and get it checked out.
If it's just spotting than tampons will do the trick :)

Thanks for replying, step

Just checked and I can feel the wire. Sorry too much info but when I took my finger out it was covered in a whitish discharge. Smelly but not fishy (urgh can't believe I wrote that )

I've literally just had a shower and smell already. I'm very paranoid that everyone can smell it

I'm not going to be able to see the doc now for at least 2 weeks. Should I be worried?

my mum had an old fashioned coil, and she stank, eventually she got to the doctors and it was vile (as was reported via her from her doctors comments) go sooner rather than later.

Do you itch? Could be thrush?

Report
charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 18/06/2014 15:23

Not itchy, no. Just always a bit wet. I really don't think it stinks badly, but doesn't smell fresh, if you know what I mean. It's not absolutely disgusting, but I'm conscious of it.

You need to get this checked. Coils can and do sometimes become infected. I would make an appointment before your holiday.

I'm going away as of tomorrow and the doc hasn't any apt left for this afternoon.

Is there anything I can do to mask the smell? A friend suggested a moon cup?

I wouldn't take the risk, You could become unwell as a result of this infection. I would phone out of hours for an appointment.

stepmama84 · 18/06/2014 16:22

I wouldn't leave it either. Do you have a local gum clinic maybe they have an appointment or a walk on clinic tonight?

Get an emergency appointment. Say you think you've got an infection.

Report
sonlypuppyfat · 18/06/2014 16:46

Get thee to the docs. I would insist on a emergency appointment.

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 18/06/2014 16:49

Just off if phone to docs again. Said it was emergency. They said the best they can do is for me to call first thing in morning for an emergency apt. Fingers crossed. I have work tomorrow but this is more important! Bricking it now

Got the coil fitted on 13 May. I spotted a bit and then got what I thought was my period as it was heavy. I bled for a about 3 weeks then it calmed down, now I'm bleeding again

This is a nightmare.

It could be the light bleeding you get with the Mirena. But I would still get checked out. Go to a walk in centre or a sexual health centre and they will see you right away at the walk in at any rate.

Just read your update. Do a web search for your nearest walk in centre and go there.

Don't panic you have an appointment for the morning. If you want to sort it before then then try a gum clinic in your area and go tonight if you can.
If I were you buy some condoms tonight for the holiday Wink

A and E will do it as an emergency - when my coil came half out they were prepared to take me when I rang NHS direct (although in the end I pulled it out myself). Mine wasn't even infected, but if there's a smell, yours may well be. So hie thee to a medical professional now for removal and some antibiotics.

Called the local gum clinic. They don't do walk in anymore and they don't have any apt until the weekend. So will wait until tomorrow and hopefully the doc will have an apt for me. Don't want to go to a and e, seems a bit excessive? Or am I being silly?

Where are you going on holiday? Is it abroad? If so I would get to A&E this evening.

A&E isn't excessive if it is an emergency.

I always think I make a big deal out of things, like I never would have imagined what I am going through would be thought of as an emergency, but reading all your replies makes me think otherwise.

I haven't got a fever and don't feel ill (although I am very tired - I have a toddler and I couldn't sleep last night so I am bound to be tired)

Going to another part of the UK to visit family, just decided to go there on Saturday (this will give me a couple of extra days to sort it out before I travel), and then we fly out to Spain on Sunday.
