coils. ...I'm so confused

Hi everyone! Here is my problem....
I was on the pill for 12 years and apart from the mini pill, I tried ALL of them! But every pill led to the same result...perfect for 3-6 months than I would have a period twice a month!
Due to this the doctors have tested me for cancer twice now and I am 28. I have 2 children and for 6 months I have not used any contraception apart from condoms which I HATE!
So I am going on the coil.
I just don't know what one?
I was thinking the copper coil as it has no hormones but now I'm thinking the merina as it can stop periods altogether but I have heard lots of horror stories about weight gain and not being able to shift it. The doctor assured me there is no way this can happen? And I'm not sure if being on the merina would cause me to have 2 periods a month like the pill.
I don't know what to do....PLEASE HELP

Never come across anyone with weight gain on Mirena (I work in family planning), odd bleeding yes esp in early weeks/months, some skin changes (rarely) some people who feel it's adversely affected PMS type symptoms but never weight gain

God I'm so confused! I'm not sure if I will come on twice a month still like the pill if I go on the mirena!
But when i Google about it hundreds of woman say how it has made them either feel bloated or have put on 1 or even 2 stone...even my sister says it. ??
But doctors say it doesn't

Plus (and sorry if it's too much info) now I'm not on the pill my period, especially the first day is so heavy I even light headed and apparently the copper coil makes you have heavier periods...
