Anyone any idea how long the waiting times are for a vasectomy?

Varies - some PCTs can be several months.

Yes, you do need to get on with it!

Here's a thread about how long post-op it can take to get an 'all clear'

The earliest is about 16 weeks. DH is still not fully clear at 10 months. You cannot predict how long it will take. Abandoning other contraception before the all clear accounts for at least 50% of post-vasectomy pregnancies.

If your local waiting list is lengthy, you could go to a provider like Marie Stopes; they charge £400. We did this because otherwise it would have been a 6 month wait.

My DH has just had one, he went to the doctors and discussed his reasons why and was given a referral with his case number on. He called up the surgery that performed them and they had appointments available 17 days later so took that one. We both went to the surgery and it was discussed again that it was permanent etc.

He has to send a sample 16 weeks later to check for sperm.

So the time from going to the doctors to having it performed was really fast I was surprised but we had already discussed it and he was certain he wanted it done.

Don't get it done at a GP practice. I have been in considerable pain for a year. I have just had major surgery to fix my problems. Lets say my NHS Trust said they see lots of men with problems caused by GPs. A number of staff told me. Also bear in mind 10 percent of men get long term pain. The GP won't tell you that till its too late.
