Female sterilisation?

So, DH is too young to have the snip, hormonal contraception really doesn't suit me (thrush for two years thanks to Mirena for example), and I'm currently pregnant with the copper coil Hmm. So other than condoms, which are a faff that we could do without, the next step might be that I get my tubes tied.

Has anyone here had it done? Does it affect you physically (is it like going through the menopause?) or emotionally at all (moods wings, lack of sex drive etc.)? What does it involve, I am clueless!

Thanks

It doesn't affect you physically in that sense at all as you still have all your bits ,however I have recently been told by my GP that they do less sterilisations now as there seems to be a link between it and heavy periods later in life . ( which is my problem) . Why do you consider your husband too young to have the snip ? Is he much younger than yourself .

I had the female sterilisation three years ago when I was 23. It was never a problem with my age (although I've heard some people have been turned down because of age). They just clipped my tubes at the same time as a c section

I had it done when dc3 was 6 months old so I was 32. We knew we were definitely finished with having babies & I wanted to be as sure as I could be that I would never again be pregnant so I was happy to be sterilised.
I went to the ward at lunchtime, was in theatre at 2, back awake by 2.45 & in the car on the way home at 6 feeling a bit tired but fine. I had a stitch in my belly button & one just under my bikini line. I had no pain at all post op apart from when I had to take the plaster off that they had stuck on my bikini line (that I hadnt shaved pre op!!!).
My periods are definitely heavier since dc3 but I cant be sure whether that is the sterilisation or just getting older.
It has rejuvinated our sex life since that worry of getting pregnant is taken away. So glad I had it done.

Ligation and vasectomy male sterilization methods are safe and effective, does not affect the health and sex. Vasectomy is very small (about 2 mm diameter, 0.5 mm lumen) and stiffness, can be seen in the lower part palpation and out of the base of the penis, where the crystal tube in the spermatic cord.

My health board have been refusing me sterilisation since having 3rd child 4 years ago on the grounds that i am too young!!!! I am 40 ffs!!! I haven't been back to try them again since I turned 40 but am hoping they might now actually allow it! And yes i know dh should be going and getting the snip but it takes him long enough to make a decision about what he wants for supper, by the time he gets round to having the snip i'll be through the menopause Smile
