I would go back to the family planning and explain to the nurse what is happening. I was on cerazette for about 3 months and that didn't happen with me. sorry you are going through this

It may take some time for things to settle down. I had a very long period when I started taking cerazette but after a couple of months had no periods at all!

I gave up with it after having a constant period for about 3 months - it certainly worked as contraception as I just avoided sex! I also had bad abdominal bloating so looked pregnant.

My friend has taken it for years with no periods at all (although people keep asking if she's pg as she too has the bloated tummy!), she said it took a while to settle down for her too, but as I was with a new partner I didn't really want to waste the honeymoon phase being unable to have sex. If you can put up with it, I think it will settle after a few months.

I've always been very regular, but cerazette caused me to have periods all over the place. I stopped taking it after having a period for six weeks. After my 2nd dd, i went on it briefly for six weeks and spiralled into a huge depression. I knew that was a known side effect of cerazette so stopped taking it and I recovered very quickly.

Well that's the sticking point, at the moment, nothing! Just being careful and not DTD when I'm likely to be fertile, but tbh we didn't do it much when I was on the pill either, we usually find other ways to enjoy ourselves, so it seemed pointless to me for the very rare occasions that it would do its job.

If I do try something else I think I will go for the copper coil as that doesn't have hormones in it (I have always been concerned about the long term effects of putting unnecessary extra hormones in my body since my mum had breast cancer from HRT). Otherwise I will try to convince DP to get the snip never gonna happen or get sterilised myself so I get a few days holiday rest in hospital!

Condoms. After dd2, we aren't having anymore do and I want DH to get the snip, but he doesn't want to which is fair enough. I said that I was done being responsible for birth control, as far as taking a pill or getting the coil, etc, so we switched to condoms. Not my favourite but it's really the only way DH can be responsible for birth control apart from the snip.

I did have messed-up bleeding with Cerazette. It also made me very tired and depressed. I feel so much better since I stopped taking it.

Going to get a coil fitted.

The first time I went on cerazette (pre-DC) it settled within one month and I didn't have any more periods. After DS I took it for 3 months and bled continually. The doctor suggested it may just have been excess hormones after birth so I've had a 3 month break and will be starting again at the end of this month.

Your hormones are all over the place after birth so that may be affecting you and it may settle down with time.

I was on cerazette for years with no period... Just as an aside, not to worry anyone, but long periods of time with no menstruation have been linked to an increased chance of cancer of the womb lining. No one told me that until I saw a consultant last year after cerazette for years, then pregnant on first proper cycle, then miscarriage at twelve weeks. After the miscarriage I bled for six months give or take, and the consultant blamed cerazette for building up a 'decidual layer' in my uterus.

To much info probably, but if someone told me years ago, I probably would have used a pill that gave me bleeds.

willdo I was hoping thinking it was just because im only 3.5 months since dd was born.

bequick that is a worry I thought that it stopped the womb lining from thickening?

Im not sure what to do im a bit limited in options as im a type 1 diabetic with a family history of heart disease

I dont think it thickens for everyone, mine just decided to lay down a very thin layer every month instead of the withdrawal bleed you get with other pills. Well that was the consultants theory anyway, he said he had seen the same thing when some women stopped taking cerazette. I didnt mean to worry you, just good to have all the facts and experiences I think.
