Cetrazette to stop mirena bleeding, any experience?

Hi
I had a mirena fitted in January and haven't had a bleed free day since, it's mostly been what I would describe as heavy spotting, sometimes more, and then for the last 2 weeks it's been quite heavy. I've seen the GP this morning who encouraged me to persevere and prescribed me 3 months worth if cetrazette to try and calm things down. Has anyone else had similar treatment? I'm desperate to stop this bleeding but I feel like as I've put up with it for 5 months I may as well try this out and hopefully get it sorted!

Thanks

it could go either way with cerazette as it stops bleeding in some women or gives heavy bleeding in others. Did the gp check that the mirena was still in place?

Thanks for replying.

No, she didn't check but I've been checking myself and the strings are still where they were. I've persevered because I wanted to get to the 6 month point when everyone assures me it'll get better. Initially I was really spotty too but that's calmed down. I really want it all to be worth it Wink

I had a similar problem with the Implant, and cerazette works a treat. No bleeding for a few years now Grin

Thanks for a positive story Grin, I was so sold on the promise of no periods that this has really pee'd me off to be honest!

Hi. I had the same problem and have been taking cerazette to boost the hormones in the Mirena. Haven't had a period for 2 and a half years and will fight any doctor who tries to take them off me.

For me it also means no PMT (oh the raaaage) no cyclical migraines, no endometriosis pain and no cyclical depression... ahh the wonders of hormones!

Me! Me! Me!

A gynae put me on cerazette for 4 myths to stop the crazy irregular spotting and bleeding. I came off 3-4weeks ago and started bleeding again on Saturday :(

Don't know what to do now really tbh...

I had constant bleeding with the Cerazette, gave up after 8 weeks of constant periods (worked a treat as contraception though, as I never had sex!) I was considering the coil instead! Interesting to hear that it may have the same effect (although was thinking about the copper one, which I think is different from Mirena isn't it).

4 months, not 4 myths.

snumpy can I ask if you have noticed any side effects from the cerazette?

Hmmm...interesting.

So the cerazette should work but when my 3 months is up I may be back to square one? In which case I may as well get the coil removed and carry on taking the cerazette Confused.

I guess it'll just be wait and see for now then.

I am hoping I will get into a cycle now and have regular heavy spotting/bleeding more like a period. But that requires to me keep a record of when I bleed. It's like being a bloody teenager all over again!

Well...it's worked! I took my first one on Tuesday afternoon and it was like a switch got turned off! My mooncup is safely back in it's bag Grin.

Now I just have to hope that a) I don't suffer the legendary cerazette side effects and b) when I stop it in 12 weeks time it doesn't start again...in which case the mirena is coming out.

Thanks all Smile

Did anything work for you in the end ? I have the mirena and have been taking cerazette , sometimes I can go a month with no spotting. Then I'll bleed /spot for 3 weeks , 2 weeks nothing ... then start bleeding again 😴. I literally don't know what to do as can't go back to pre mirena periods as I would flood for 3 days and be housebound, but am sick of the constant spotting it makes me feel dirty and having a new partner , it's effecting our relationship.
