Has anyone had a lost coil?

I've just been told I've got to have an ultrasound on my pelvis as ive been getting mid cycle pain, but the GP couldn't find my coil strings when she had a feel. Can it really just have fallen out? And if it hasn't, that means the strings have gone inside - what will they do to get it out?

I'm wincing at the thought to be honest, and getting really nervous! I had to have diazepam to have it inserted!

That's great to hear, actually. I'd be very happy to have a general!

Did you have a replacement one put back in?

Mine went AWOL, seen on U/S, had it fished out in my tea break as I work in the NHS ;-) Now that's dedication to patient care. Didn't even miss one minute of work.

I love my Mirena coil btw, I'm planning on surfing on through the menopause with it, hopefully it will make it easier. I think if you are lucky enough to 'get along' with the Mirena, it can be the most life enhancing thing a woman can find (when it's not getting lost!)

Mines a Mirena too. I had a copper one for 5 years and got on really well. I've had this mirena since October and I've had nowt but trouble! Lostinwales, I'd had high hopes for it and prob would have carried on with it, but I think I'll leave it out if they have to remove it.

God, I hope I can get a general!!

Chocoholic, don't!! Mind I'm using contraception as in "continually bleeding for weeks on end" if that's a known method.

Mine got out and was floating around in my abdomen - had to have keyhole surgery to have it removed! However, had a new one put in during surgery and haven't had any problems since!

Same thing happened to me - but I declined the offer of a new one. Not going through all that again!

Sh*t. I had my copper coil replaced 10 days ago by community gnae as dr couldn't do for some reason. Had bit of spotting since then and a bit of pain yesterday. So thought I'd check and can't feel strings. Gonna ring drs first thing and hopefully get appt to have checked tomorrow. Now really worried a output having to have further procedures. No problems at all with first coil. Bloody hell. It was the community gynae as well. Luckily not done the deed since then for various reasons......

Quick update. Managed to get appt to see nurse this pm and luckily it is all still there and intact. Apparently my womb points downwards or something so the threads are hanging that way? Confused. Not sure why I could feel them ok with last coil but never mind. Might not be able to check them every month.

Anyway hope everyone else gets sorted out ok

OP I tried to have my mirena removed in March, same situation as you, Dr and nurse couldn't see or feel the strings, so I had a pelvic u/s and an internal u/s and they found the coil had moved further up into my cervix. 12 days ago I had it removed by hysteroscopy. I was told they no longer anaesthetise for it though, if you need the same procedure, I advise to push for anaesthetic it was horrible without and I think quite cruel!
