Short period on the pill - menopause? other reasons? no reason?!

I've always had pretty light periods, more so when I'm on the pill (I'm on microgynon - which is now called levest), but recently they've been going very strange.

I used to always know - almost to the minute - when my period was going to arrive but now they come when they want - often the day before I'm due to start taking my pill again.

This month my period lasted a day and a half, and was so light I only used four tampons.

What's worrying me is could this be the menopause? I'm 38. I know the periods you have when you're on the pill aren't 'real' periods, so would the menopause affect it?

I'm so desperate for another baby (even though my husband says no) and I'm not sure I could cope if I'm menopausal already.

Or could there be another reason? I know your periods are supposed to get progressively lighter on the pill, but I've been on this pill on and off for about 15 years - surely it wouldn't start happening now?
