Should I be scared of taking the morning after pill?

My husband and I had an er...misshap in the early hours of this morning. I have just got back from a late pharmacy and swallowed the morning after pill as I am right in the fertile part of my cycle.

Armed with some concerning advice from the lovely pharmacist and £23 lighter in the purse department I am a little apprehensive. He told me that I was likely to feel very sick but must try not to be sick for three hours until pill absorbed or need to have another pill.

He said tummy etc to be expected. I am now very nervous AIBU??

YANBU it is okay to be worried. But the pill does work in most cases and you can perhaps relax in that knowledge. And make plans to avoid future mishaps if it causes you anxiety.

I've had it and had no problems whatsoever. When I was younger and had mishaps. Those were the days.

I've taken it twice Blush and not felt sick at all.

When I took it years ago I felt quite ill until I ate something then I was fine. So if you do feel sick try eating something.

Oh thank you Smile
The pharmacist was lovely but so very 'concerned' and 'worried' about the dreadful effects that it really made me feel uneasy.

Did any of you have terrible bleeds afterwards/ spotting?

No nothing! Honestly I've had it at least once (maybe more) and nothing. Just a normal period. I suppose they have to inform you of all the potential problems though.

They have to tell you the worst case scenario so that you are prepared. It's very individual OP. I'm sure you'll be fine x

It's ok. I've had it twice and didn't feel particularly sick either time. The bleeds afterwards were just like a period.

The formula was changed a few years ago. Nausea is rare.

I have only taken it once - it was a couple of years ago when the condom split and I did feel a bit embarrassed to be 36 and asking for the morning after pill Blush. I felt a little bit queasy but it was barely noticeable to be honest.

You will be fine Smile Also, I went to Boots and got mine free - not sure if this is a regional thing??

I haven't taken it, but have one for emergency use... the lady giving it to me said don't be worried when your period is late after taking it.

I had assumed that it worked by bringing on your period straight away, but in fact it delays ovulation - thus making that cycle longer (and your stress greatly increased by being late that cycle, LOL).

I guess that's why it's not an "abortion pill", if you've already ovulated and egg has already met sperm, it does sweet nothing. But if you were about to ovulate it postpones it long enough to not get pregnant.

Hope it all works out OK.

Oh Jenny is that how it works? I have this funny feeling I have ovulated. I feel terribly silly and nervous.

What a moron I am (or rather my DH Angry)

I must not have sex again

You'll be OK. Keep strong. The nausea is probably more due to your state of mind than the medication, and will pass.

It failed for me :-( A condom split, took it the next morning, followed all instructions. A month later I had to have an abortion. :(

Failed for me and it also the same for my flat mate a week later - condom split, MAP and still got pregnant!
