Coil fitted just before holiday?

I'm planning and hoping to have the coil fitted later this week but we are going away on Saturday for a week. I've just thought about it and realised it might not be a good idea to have it just before we go incase of problems (never had one before so no idea how my body will respond to it). Then I thought I was just being paranoid and it'll be fine.
I haven't decided which one yet, the GP says I can decide on the day. I've never had major issues before but have been waiting for ages to get this done and not been able to between erratic bleeding.

Would you do it?

I had mine fitted and had no issues or bleeding so I would go for it if you have been waiting a long time Smile

It hurts! Take paracetemol or something before you go and get some "Buscopan" I've seen that you can now get it over the counter and it's really good for cramps! (I was given it by the doctor that fitted mine)
I had cramps for the rest of the day it was fitted and a bit of bleeding which might be annoying on holiday but absolutely no problems. I think it's brilliant! If you're going to have problems I think they happen pretty quickly and so by Saturday you will know that everything is fine. Which it will be.

I've had an IUD fitted in December and it was fine. I took a paracetamol about 30 mins before just in case. But it didn't hurt that bad. A stretch & sweep is so much worse in my opinion as with the coil fitting, they use a speculum to help open your cervix. So no more uncomfortable than a cervical smear IMHO.
I did not bleed afterwards and only had a very mild cramp for a couple of hours after.

Oh I forgot to say. I love mine! I wish I'd had one fitted ages ago.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm not expecting any major problems because of how my smears and stretch&sweeps have been. Can't wait to get everything done and sorted and forgotten about!
