marvelon not good-what next?

Just been to my GP to change my pill. Was on marvelon for 6 months post DD and felt awful. Had 8 days feeling like me, then 4 days of anxiety, depressed, REALLY weepy, wondering whether I was getting PND, really snappy and irritable (so much so that even my mum commented) then started bleeding - having periods that were 2.5 weeks long. then back to the beginning.
At first I thought the bleeding would settle down. It didnt.
I also didnt connect the weepy/crappiness with hormonal stuff as it happened mid-packet so I thought I was just going mad. Finally worked out that it must be the pill.

GP not very helpful - her comment was well if Marvelon doesnt work for you then its unlikely any pill will. Great
She has put me on Femodene so will try that.
Have looked on MN and most people loved Marvelon - those of you that hated iot - what worked for you?
Also, just looked at fpa site and now wondering about the patch - any experiences of people finding that eaiser than marvelon?
GP was pushing mirena but I really dont want that. At least with pills if they screw me up I can stop taking them easily.
Oh, and have no sex drive :( hoping a change of pill might change that.

You should try going to the family planning clinic if the femodene doesn't work for you since they'll probably have more experience in these matters than your GP.

I have problems with the pill like you describe.
I haven't been on the pill for a couple of years so can't remember what it is called bur found the only one that works for me is one that contains different strength pills throughout the month. I'm not describing it very well but basically on the first day you start at pull number 1 and there are 3 rows of different colour pills that contain varying strengths of the hormones and you work through them in the order directed on the packet.
I tried loads of pills before settling on that one.

I didn't get on with Marvelon at all, felt very PMT ish all the time, horrible. I ended up with Microgynon 30 and took it for years, it suited me great.

Keep trying different brands, you will probably find one that suits you in the end but it can be a bit of trial and error. Cerazette made me have spotting forever, same for Noriday (both are mini pill)

They will want to steer you away from patch as it is expensive, Mirena is v cheap over the 5 years and they are pushing long term reversible contraceptives generally. FWIW I have a Mirena now and love it. Well, not love it Grin but it suits me and it works.

Brilliant thanks - will see how I get on with femodene for the moment but might try a FP clinic next time if it doesnt work out.
Thanks for that suggestion Ineedacleaner - might discuss that idea next time I go.
