WWYD - Mirena related.....

At a loss to know what to do really.

Had Mirena fitted about 10 weeks ago, which would have been about 12 weeks after the birth of my DS.

No bleeding, no problems on a day to day basis. I've randomly gained 9lb though which considering up until the week I had it fitted I was loosing about 1lb a week of baby-weight it seems very coincidental that seemed to stop and went in the other direction.

We've only managed to have sex 4 times since having it fitted (baby still getting me up 2 times every night and I'm knackered!) but each time post-sex things are just getting worse and worse.

Sex itself isn't painful in any way but afterwards (usually the next day) it certainly is. Today it is the worst ever - like a combination of pulsing ovarian pain on the right and period pains. Have taken paracetamol but at the moment its only taking the edge of and I am still very uncomfortable (so much so that I've decided to stay at home today and change plans). Its certainly working as a contraceptive as the way I feel at the moment I don't want sex again frankly if it feels like this aftewards.

I've also developed in the last 3 weeks a generalised lower back ache. It doesn't feel like something skeletal or muscular - it feels "inside" like a period type backache. It's there all the time, but worse if I've been on my feet all day.

I've been back to the FP clinic who fitted it and they said it was in place as it should be, and the backache was a coincidence. They have said the post-sex pain should reduce (but it hasn't). The only run a clinic once a week and appts run out weeks in advance so I now can't get to see them again until almost Xmas. I've tried my GP but she says she isn't trained on the Mirena and I should go back to the FP clinic.

I can't understand what can be causing this pain if it's correctly in place. My gut feeling is to have it taken out but I don't have a clue what to do as an alternative - too cautious to let DH have the snip in case we want another, ditto with DEPO and returning fertility levels, am more than useless at forgetting to take the pill, so don't really know what else to do?

Go with your gut feel. As you say sounds too coincidental. If you have it removed and things don't improve then will you can check out other things. I had mine fitted same time but no bad effects yet but seem very dry down there! Have you found this? You could try implants in your arm or the injections
