Mooncup newbie

Not sure if this goes here or in general health, but I just tried my mooncup for the first time and I can't get it to unfold once it's in! I know I've had two vaginal deliveries and everything but it does seem very cramped in there. Do I need the smaller size? Or just more practice! Help!

I usually find that it unfolds itself after a couple of mins in there. How long have you left it? Has it collected anything? You can also try squeezing your pelvic floor muscles or as you put it in, sort of twist it, that usually makes it unfold straight away.

pinch the bottom and give it a twist and it should unfold

Ah, maybe I'm not giving it enough time? I did try a bit of poking and squeezing though.. Will keep trying!!

Are mooncups any good?

YES! wifey6 the difference between a mooncup and 'traditional' sanpo is amazing. its like you have been living in the darkages and then suddenly woken up one morning to find yourself in the 21st century! I love it and would not go back to tampons if you paid me. :)

I ordered mine through amazon, but it was dealt with by this company and had no problems whatso ever. I think that is probably the cheapest you will find them and the delivery is free too.

You can also buy them in Boots!

Cut the bottom bit off. I was using mine for a few months with mixed success, cut off the stem entirely this month and I swear I forgot about it most of the time. Does anyone else hate pulling it out though?

pulling it out doesn't bother me. I pinch the bottom to get a good grip, then slowly ease it out so that, A: it doesn't fly out of my hand leaning the bathroom resembleing a murder scene, and B: to minimise the 'Schloop' factor Grin that is ment to be the noise by the way

I find emptying it into the loo strangly satisfying too Blush maybe I just a bit odd!

Have had quite a few goes now and it is sort of working but ever so tight, so I went to boots and got the smaller one! It did seem to go in and infold a lot easier but I'm not sure if that was the size or just because of all the practice! Anyway, we shall see if it leaks...or disappears upwards like the bigger one did!

make sure its wet when you put it in so it slides in easier. Mine disappers upwards sometimes too, but hasn't caused it to leak. yet if your having trouble reaching it to get it out, squating down to almost floor level will bring it back down and you should be able to reach it easily.

good luck :)

After hearing about mooncups on here I have just one each for me and my seventeen year old daughter. I have sterilised them and tried mine and it feels quite comfy really, can't wait to get rid of the sanitaries, I hated them every month and felt really dirty. Silly question but can you use them at night?

I bought mine in boots.

yes, they are fine to use at night, and you can use them right to the very end of your period even when its just very light, so no need to faf around with panty liners. :)

Well I used the smaller one fine for the rest of my period! No leaks and it is not disappearing upwards so much now I have cut all of the stem off. I found if I did a couple of pushes it comes down far enough to grab. And the feedback ladies on the mooncup website were really helpful and even sent me a free b size! But as I already bought one I shall have to think of someone I can give it to! I'm really glad I persevered, it still needs a bit of getting used to but it is definitely worth it! Yay for mooncups and no more stinky pads and tampons full of chemicals!
