Can anyone tell me what's a suitable amount of time for playing video games. I watched this talk on dysTalk about the potential adverse effects of video games:

I usually allow my son one hour per day plus a little more at weekends and as far as I can tell he's not being effected by them but maybe I'm just missing it if he is.

The best way to tell is to tell him he can't play on it for one night and see what happens. If he becomes destraught, then you know there's a problem.

How old is your son?

I think it depends on what they are doing the rest of the time and what type of games they play.

My DS spends quite a bit of time playing games and stuff, he likes the tycoon type games and I actually think he gets something out of games like that. But he also watchs documentaries, crap kids TV, plays at his freinds house, goes to scouts, goes to drama and a club at a local country park, so all fairly balanced I think.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
