My 10 and a half year old son wants to cycle to school. As its about 20years since I have been on a bike I think we should both take lessons! Does anyone know of any group lessons locally?
DD1 aged 9 has done this at school this year (5) and will do a further course next year. The lessons happen at school during school time, but parents have to pay, have you asked your school if they do something similar?
Goodness! Didn't expect such quick responses! I will contact the school but I wanted to find one I could do with him as I think he's still a bit young to take himself to school on such busy roads-and its about 2 miles.

At our school too, they welcome parents and are trying to gather enough parents together to do a parents course! When they do the cycling proficency stuff, they do theory in the playground first, and then set off on quiet, wide roads. They are not allowed to do the 'busy junction' stuff until they get to Secondary (but don't know if that's a national thing or just what our school's HT thinks)
have a look on the british cycling website and go to the go-ride section - it's got details of clubs and activities for children organised by region - my kids go to a fantastic club in Sutton which has improved their bike-handling skills (and therefore safety) enormously
