I understand if no one is keen and this seems " stalkerish"

However I think there a few mn kids at the course in York this week. Anyone fancy saying hi after the concert? Otherwise I will just be guessing who you might be lol. Dd2 there now

I'm not going. It's hundreds of miles away! DD is getting a lift home with other people.

I'm hoping ds will be there in 2016 - we need to wait until he's old enough!

Nice to know so many other MN recorder playing kids. DD1 not at nyro. May meet a few of you at Birmingham festival in November though.

Wafflenose is another poster with recorder playing children. Bizarrely I don't know any other kids in real life who play recorder beyond kum bah yah but mn seems to have plenty.

How hard is it to qualify for nyro and nytro? Ds is 8 and has g4 and I expect he'll have his g5 by easter. He'll have to wait another year to do the summer course though. What's the success rate like for kids who audition?

DD went along to a play day last year aged 7, and was invited on the Easter course this year - she would have been 8.5 and Grade 5, but we have decided to wait. She wants to have a go at NCO and the window for that will probably slam shut within a couple of years, because her flute playing isn't quite as good, and they ask for some scary standards. They can do NYRO for far longer!

I think they have to be Grade 5 treble and descant (or tenor) for NYRTO summer courses, so DD wouldn't get in yet anyway- her treble is a bit behind. It's Grade 8 and over for NYRO.

Theas - did you enjoy the concert? DD1 said it went pretty well...

Just about to post about this. The concert was amazingly good!

DS (who was dragged along under sufferance really as we were on our way home from Durham), who is a really excellent player and can be.... well a bit critical of others was impressed !

Blockwork were ace ( as they should be) . DD2 played bass and I couldn't see her hiding behind the contra LOL. THe chamber items were good too .

The combined items had 8 ( yes 8) contras and the bass heavy sonorous sound came across really well.

It was all good. Ds wants us to buy the tracks so he can illustrate anyone who sneers at recorders how good they can be.

To all the aspiring NYRO/NYTRO kids around the youngest was just 9. However I think absolute grade 5 min from way things turned out was right. Easter course less so, certainly try that 1st.

DD1 was pretty irked that DD2 refused to go. But actually, I think it was the right choice - DD2 just isn't independent enough to be away for a week, the fact that she was good enough isn't relevant at that age. And she would probably have cramped DD1's style.

I wish I'd heard the Germans playing Megarony (that's been in the ERO repertoire for the last year).

It sounds brilliant! We are going to wait a few years, because DD1 wants to try for NCO first (on flute) and realistically I think she will only have two shots at that. I look forward to lots of NYRO concerts later on though!
