Dunno. I'd assume for conservatoire proper they Ll commute into London. I assume there is a lively schools music service though - if you're not in that already find out - even brilliant kids will benefit fom a year it so before moving on up.

Sadly I suspect you've missed audition dates for both at this time of year.

I don't know which of them run junior departments but the main conservatoires in the UK are:

Birmingham
Royal Northern (Manchester)
Leeds
Royal Welsh (Cardiff)
RCS (Glasgow)
Guildhall (London)
Royal Academy (London)
Royal College (London)
Trinity (London)

I know that RCM and RNCM, Birmingham all run junior departments and auditions usually follow the open days which happen to be February or early March each year.
Auditions are usually around Mar/Apr
Hope this helps.

TwointheMourning -

Do you mean conservatoire proper, for advanced students, or just a Saturday music school (as in the French idea of a "local" or "small" conservatoire)?

Hello, thanks everyone. Julie I think I am after the French idea. Do you know of anything?

TwointheMourning - no real info, but I basically did a web search for Kent and came up with the following:

If child is already playing to around grade 4 on principal instrument this could be of interest: www.kentacademyofmusic.co.uk/apply.htm

www.staplehurst-music-centre.co.uk/ seems to cater for groups, all age orchestra, recorder beginners' group etc.

Or for general info for children and adults, groups, lessons, all sorts of stuff: www.kent-music.com/
