Beavers/Cubs moving up badge and time in scouts movement badges

DS1 has a few "issues" and having things "just right" is one of them.

We moved house when he was a beaver and by the time he got into the new local pack he was a cub iyswim.

He did not get his "moving up" badge as the new cub pack leader maintains that he can't/won't give ds1 this badge as he wasn't a beaver in this troop. He says we should ask the old beaver leader (70 miles away, who has now retired with serious health issues so not acceptable for me to contact re the matter). He also is not interested in DS1's investiture certificate from old Beavers to work out his number of years in scouting movement in total award and has offered a "1" award.

DS1 lines up with all the other cubs each week at the end when parents collect and it's so obvious that he is checking out the other cubs relevant badges. He's not the most popular boy because of his geekiness issues and somewhat shy too but on the way home every week he is talking about and fighting back tears over what seems like such a small issue to me.

Is there any way I can get these badges for him and pass them off as having belatedly come from the old Beavers leader.

As I mentioned, his obsession with this matter is not typical, it's just the way he is and it's great that he is able to join in with cubs each week I just want to put things "right" for him when he is, in this case, actually correct about the matter and the badges he should have.

Seems trivial I know but each week it makes me sad too.

I think you can just order them from the Scout website.

Unfortunately not I've there and it doesn't seem to be something that the general public can order.

Oops, that should say "I've looked there"

Can't promise she'll say yes but I'll ask DS's Beaver leader.

Also, please don't think me rude but are you aware that some of the traits you describe fit with Asperger's Syndrome?

Thanks Dr Seuss - I'm aware of the slight AS fit, don't be afraid, it's not rude to mention it at all !

School/GP etc think not although having researched the matter the spectrum is so wide he may be on the thinnest end of it somewhere but there seems no certainty one way or the other. He flies accademically so lots of stuff is accepted as "just ds's way" iykwim. He kind of doesn't go public with this sort of stuff so obviously has control over his behaviour in some way, it's puzzling.

I suspect dh is also on the thinnest end of the AS spectrum too so I'm not surprised. Slightly odd behaviour/practices is the norm in our house whereas outside the home most things seem more normal.

I suppose I could appeal on MN for badges from someone whose child has stopped attending cubs for wahtever reason, although the style of badges has to be the most up to date.

Is there a scout shop near you?

At the end of the day you should not be having to source these badges . The cub leader sounds dreadful . See if you can speak to the group scout leader and explain the situation to them and see if they can sort it out . I was under the impression that the scout movement was supposed to be inclusive and yet this is the second thread on here in recent days about unreasonable leaders. And before anyone says anything yes I do know they volunteer and was a beaver and cub leader for several years myself.

The leader sounds like an arse Hmm

If all else fails, try eBay. There's often odds and ends of badges knocking about.

I was going to suggest ebay. There's also badges you can get like "I like Beavers", so if your delightful leader is not going to object then you could get him a few extra to sew on that you don't have to earn.

hmm, sounds like the leader is not being very helpful here.
As a Beaver Leader myself, I thought it didn't matter which group you were in to get the badge, just that you were previously in Beavers.
Lots of kids move around and the beauty of scouting is that you can join in where ever you live.
Am annoyed on your behalf that the leader is being awkward about this.

Another beaver leader here and I agree with fridayfreedom that they are not being very helpful at all.

I think as your son was already an invested beaver he had a right to be taken into a group when you moved and shouldn't have to have gone on any waiting lists.
