Hi there,
I am hoping to find a great music theory tutor for my 12 year old son. He is due to start studying his Grade 6 piano but needs to catch up on his music theory. He has had a couple of teachers to help him but has always found the subject very dry and never felt that the tutor was supportive and patient enough. I really want to find someone right for him. Any thoughts from you out there please ? We are based in North London but are willing to travel for a great teacher.

thank you all!!

I could do it online/ by post/ skype for you (have done this before successfully) but you might prefer face to face. I'm on the South Coast, so too far away in person, I'm afraid - the furthest north I get on a regular basis is Guildford!

Maybe someone else will come along and know someone, which will suit you better, but PM me if you want to know more about doing it by email/ post etc. (exams would still be up where you live, btw)

Hi

Just seen your message. I know of a wonderful Danish music theory teacher. She has taught all three of my children and they have loved it. They have also got a distinction in every grade. She is in fact based in North London in Archway. I know of quite a few people who have studied with her both children and adults. My friend's husband studied all five grades with her just so he could teach his own children the grades and he is doing brilliantly with them and has not needed to find a teacher for his children. Good way of doing it too !! Her name is Louise. If you would like me to give you her phone number I can do that ? Just let me know. I hope this helps ! Good luck.

Hi lindamoore
Just want to thank you for your recommendation of a great music theory teacher for our son. He has just sat his Grade 3 theory exam and received a distinction ! She is a fabulous teacher for him. He adores his lessons and has stopped fearing the subject.Thank you so much.

Hi there, just wanted to say that on the back of this recommendation I got in touch with Louise as well. My son has also now just received a high distinction for his grade three and is on track for grade five in November. Louise is great. Note that although she is based in Archway, she will be teaching in Notting Hill on Saturdays from September if we have enough students to make her travel time worthwhile. If you are in west london and looking for a fantastic theory teacher then please get in touch.
