music theory and composition - what should I be looking for?

Hi again musical mums, dd wants to do music theory/composition (it will be a private lesson about 30 minutes a week, teacher working with a piano as I understand it). I am waiting to hear back from the teacher re dates/venues etc.

Unfortunately I lost the plot a while ago with dd's violin theory so really have no idea about this. We are overseas and don't do music exams but she just wants more instru ction in this.

Can anyone advise me what I might to ask a teacher or consider? I'd be grateful for any advice or thoughts. Dd is 10
