My DS has now moved up to cubs, but he loved beavers because of the games, the activities try did, and most of all the sleepover with his pack (in tents indoors and allowed to stay up til all hours being mad) and the parading on St Georges Day. He loved getting badges for his uniform.

I loved it (and still do) because it teaches them to achieve as part of a team, to respect a leader and to sit still and listen. And real life skills like map reading and cooking and road safety. He is enjoying cubs more because now they do real camping, in tents outside, and get a weekend away from mum.

Firstly, it's very hard to get into cubs and scouts etc if you don't go to beavers - and it certainly gets better the older they get.

Secondly, what the scout movement does is 'teach them to take risks'. And this is sorely missing from their school education....

Thirdly, I don't really know what they do - but they have fun :)

My dts are now in Cubs and they love it, all boys together and good fun had by all. Although their Beavers leader and TicTac were women the Cubs leaders are all men which is good as there is no male role model at home for them.

Lots of games, inside and outside, days out to local places of interest. I helped out on one where we went to a local park and fished for gunk with the Ranger - we have leeches in this country - leeches! They had special events for all the important dates - Hallowe'en, St Andrews Day, Burns Night as well as projects about different countries etc.

Earning the badges gave them a sense of achievement and they are happy to walk in the parades although neither of them like when they have to sit through a church service hehe [csmile]!
