Hi everyone! My little one has just started Beavers and I'm not quite sure how he goes about getting badges, can anyone help?! Confused Does he wait to be told to do something by the colony or am I supposed to do things at home with him and tell the colony about it later, hoping he'll get a badge for it? Grateful for any advice!!!

They will probably do lots of activities at Beavers that will contribute towards various badges. Our Beavers sometimes do whole sessions where all the children do enough to achieve a badge.

Hope he enjoys Beavers!

Don't know if it's the same with all groups but ours work on badges together and occassionally we'll get a not saying DS has to do something at home, so we don't have to think about it tbh. DS now a cub and absolutely covered in badges, sadly not a sewing badge Smile

When DS was at Beavers, the leader let us know when he was ready to be invested, then we got him a top and they gave him the badges. Then they did loads of supervised activities at Beavers and at extra events to earn challenge / activity badges.

All you have to do is sew them on Wink

yes they tell you when to do somethign at home - ds has got to make a hot drink and i've got to write a letter saying he's done it.

No need for that - Badge Fix is your friend: Badge Fix

Works for everything except the name tape, but even that at a pinch! Smells vile when you're using it, but that goes away once it dries.

that really depends on your colony and the leaders. some like to concentrate on the badges and some do other things. you could always have a word with the leaders and ask if you should be doing anything at home. The badge details are all on //www.scouts.org.uk

As a cub leader I quite often do most of a badge during meetings and ask them to do the last bit at home, but that's because they're a bit older and I don't feel they should get badges for just turning up.
